The album artwork features Allie sitting in a barren, desert landscape next to a singular blue structure, symbolizing isolation and the artificial constructs of identity. Her wardrobe during this era—characterized by sharp tailoring, stark monochromatic palettes, and her signature glasses—served as a physical manifestation of the album's themes: structured, defensive, yet undeniably beautiful. Upon its release, CollXtion II received widespread critical acclaim. Music critics praised Allie X’s sharp songwriting instincts, drawing comparisons to pop luminaries like Lorde, Chvrches, and Robyn. While it did not achieve massive mainstream commercial success, it achieved something arguably more sustainable: a fervent, global cult following. It established Allie X as a sought-after songwriter in the industry, leading to high-profile collaborations with artists like Troye Sivan (for whom she co-wrote much of Blue Neighbourhood and Bloom ). As Allie X explained in an interview with Out Magazine , the project is a "study of how much of me is actually me, and how much is informed by pain and trauma". It navigates "the loss and fragmentation of one's identity" through a lens of woozy, experimental, yet ultimately accessible synth-pop. Can’t copy the link right now

She sat at the piano. The same one from her childhood. And she played a chord that wasn’t a chord—it was a frequency. A raw, dissonant, beautiful noise that made the glass walls sing and then shatter. The white blossoms caught fire. The rainbows turned to ash.

Alexandra Hughes, known to the world as Allie X, had already generated significant underground buzz with her 2015 debut EP, CollXtion I , which she described as revolving around themes of "Addiction/Self Destruction". Unlike a typical pop star rollout, Allie X operates within a self-crafted narrative universe called the World of X, employing surrealist visuals, GIFs called "X Visuals," and an enigmatic stage persona often obscured by masks or distorted voices.

At its core, CollXtion II is a concept album centered on the theme of self-dissection. The "X" in Allie X represents the unknown variable in an algebraic equation—a blank space where an identity should be. Throughout the album, she attempts to solve for "X" by examining the trauma, vices, and coping mechanisms that define her. The Trauma of Youth
